The people who make everything happen
Our management team consists of an elected committee who are all volunteers and two employed office staff. The committee is responsible for governance and strategic direction while Annie and Mel in the office handle all day-to-day activities such as answering membership enquiries and attending to the endless details involved in organising and publicising our events.
I joined the committee in 2011 and have gained enormously by engaging with the business owners who are members of WSBA. Learning about the issues they face makes me a more effective committee member and helps me perform better as a director of my own financial services business. A strong team culture is vitally important for any successful business and WSBA is no exception. As President, I encourage the committee to have a collaborative and inclusive approach that’s sets the tone for everything WSBA does. Another key priority for the committee is to facilitate the relationship building and networking that is so vital for our members. This involves a high energy level, a sense of purpose and a lot of fun.
I joined in 2007 and became a committee member soon afterwards. I’m extremely proud to have been involved in our transformation from the Subiaco Business Association into the force we are today. The journey has been personally rewarding and serving on the committee is a great way to give something back to the community while networking with other professionals. As a strong believer in the importance of long-term business relationships, I gain great satisfaction from the way WSBA attracts and holds so many members and helps them connect with each other.

My accounting firm joined in 2013 with the aim of finding new clients. It was a smart decision that has paid commercial dividends. What has especially appealed is that we meet high-calibre people who come from diverse industries and represent everything from start-ups to established companies. We’re also very impressed with the quality and frequency of events and WSBA’s community feeling. The way members relate to each other fits perfectly with my philosophy of creating real working partnerships with clients, something I know other members also aspire to achieve.
As a mortgage broker, I love the opportunities WSBA creates for networking with like-minded business people. Our functions, which we hold at a variety of venues across the Western Suburbs, are a wonderful opportunity to introduce yourself and your business to others. If you wish, you can take centre stage by hosting an event at your own premises. How good is that! I’ve met a lot of fantastic people within WSBA who are as passionate as I am about wanting to successfully grow their businesses.

My company’s core philosophies are innovation, intelligence and imagination. Membership of WSBA helps us meet these aspirations and be dynamic and successful. This is because WSBA provides support and knowledge, brand awareness in a valuable demographic, and marketing and networking opportunities with people who have similar values and guiding principles. We benefit from WSBA’s support of local business I am very pleased to give something back by serving on the committee.
My law firm joined WSBA as an Alliance Partner because we could see the huge potential benefit of a business association with a Western Suburbs focus. I quickly realised it was well-run, well-organised and had a leadership group that would make a membership worthwhile. So much so, that I decided to join the committee. Everyone in business has a million demands on their time, so choosing one organisation out of the many available businesses, professional and networking groups is an important decision. Choosing WSBA was the right decision for me.
With digital as Alyka’s backbone, it might be surprising for some to hear that we’ve always prioritised and valued face-to-face, in-person networking. Every website we build is for humans to use and every piece of marketing we do is for real people to engage with. That’s why WSBA was such a natural fit for Alyka and for myself. Being a proud Subiaco-based company I’ve personally worked for many years with the local council on a variety of web and marketing projects as well as with myriad local businesses to help grow their presence, profits and results. As a committee member I now have the privilege of being able to help the WSBA with their digital strategy and web presence but also the joy of being able to network with an astoundingly kind, friendly, fun and fierce group of business owners. Not only is it one of the most active and welcoming networking associations in Perth, the high calibre of events and high quality of attendees all have the same idea – the desire to create long lasting business relationships with good people, doing good things in the Western Suburbs and beyond.
I joined the WSBA to expand my networks within the Perth market place, following an interstate move. Not having any local networks was a huge challenge to me professionally. After exploring several networking groups, I was delighted to find the WSBA. My experience has been fantastic, the members have been open and welcoming and a huge support in my interstate transition. I’ve gained more than I thought in the short year I have been a member. Not only have I made valuable connections within the Western Suburbs market place, I have also made some great friends and ‘advocates’ in business and I absolutely cherish these relationships. I was so impressed with the open, supportive and empowering ethos of the organisation, that I have become apart of the committee to assist in providing that very advocacy back to the local business community. WSBA is a rare gem, with an amazing culture and relevant and valuable events. It is also super fun to boot!
I help create and implement business development plans to attract new members and strategic marketing activities to retain existing ones. I also coordinate everything involved in putting on our events and manage our social media activities and our website.
